Future Progressive

Watch Video

Create the future progressive by using will + be + verb-ing.

When to Use the Future Progressive

Use this tense to express something that will occur in the future for a period of time. This period of time may begin in the present.

Examples

I will be studying Italian for three years in Italy.

He will be working in Japan for two years.

I will be working at this office indefinitely.

Tip: When speaking, Americans will almost always pronounce "will" as a contraction or as 'll.

We also use the future progressive to sound casual.
We often want to sound casual regarding things that may seem serious or difficult (but which are not).

I will work long hours next week. This sounds like a serious plan.
I'll be working long hours next week. This states a fact--the speaker may not mind the long hours.
I will drive for ten hours this Sunday to go to my aunt's house. This sounds like a serious plan.
I'll be driving for ten hours this Sunday to go to my aunt's house. This states a fact--the speaker may be looking forward to the drive.
