Answer the Questions

1. Think about the last new friendship you had. What had happened before you became friends?

2. Think about the last goal you achieved. What had you tried before you achieved your goal?

3. Think about the last time you did not achieve something that you wanted. What had you tried before you realized your plans would not work out?

4.Think about a time when you were very surprised. Describe your surprise and use "because I had never __________" in your answer.

5. Think about a time when you were very happy. Describe your happiness and use "because I had never __________" in your answer.

Past Perfect Pattern: Already and Never

I had already ________________ when/before I ___________________.
I had never ___________________ when/before I __________________.

Examples:

I had already taught English for three years when I gained my first teaching job.
I had never seen a famous person before I visited Los Angeles.

Challenge: Create 5 sentences using "already" and 5 sentences using "never" and follow the pattern above.
