Simple Present with Two Verbs

Sometimes we use the verb + infinitive. Sometimes we use the verb + present participle.

prefer	yes	yes	I prefer to save my money. I prefer saving my money.
prepare	yes	no	He prepares to leave town.
promise	yes	no	I promise to send you a confirmation tomorrow.
push	sometimes yes often with an indirect object	no	She pushed to get her promotion. She pushed herself to exercise more.
refuse	yes	no	They refuse to sell the house to us.
remember	yes	no	Please remember to turn off the lights beforeyou leave.
reply	yes	yes	He replies to say he cannot come to our party. He replies saying he cannot come to our party.
to be required	yes	no	She is required to report to the manager each week.
will return	yes	no	We'll return to see the next show.
run	yes	no	He runs to arrive on time.
