Contractions with BE: I'm, You're, He's, She's, It's, We're, They're

These contractions are commonly used to describe people and to speak in the present progressive tense. 

Describing People

1. How would you describe yourself? 

2. What is a compliment you often give? Use you're in your answer.

3. Think of a man and a woman that you know. Talk about what they are like.

4. Use it's to describe the weather today.

5. Use it's to describe your city.

6. Think about yourself and another person or people, such as your spouse or your family. What kind of people are you all?

7. Think about a friend's family. What are they like?

 

Examples

I'm kind, generous, and intelligent.

I'm a kind person. I'm also a generous and intelligent person.

We're healthy and active.

We're healthy people.

We're a healthy family. We're a healthy and active family.

The Progressive Tense

With this tense, you will frquently use going to. For casual, popular speech, combine the words and pronounce gunnu with u as in up sounds. It is usually spelled gonna.

1. What are you doing today?

2. Think of a man and then a woman. Describe each person's life, e.g. where the person is living, working, any projects or plans he/she is doing.

3. Use it's going to to describe how the weather will be later today.

4. How about you and your spouse or family? What are you all doing today? Also, do you have plans, such as places you're gonna visit? 

5. Think about a family you know. What are some things they're gonna do?
