Black Friday occurs on the day after Thanksgiving each year. On this
day, retailers offer huge sales in order to get customers to their
stores throughout the Christmas season. The name was once used to
describe the heavy pedestrian traffic that occurred the day after
Thanksgiving, but later, it became known as the day that retailers were
"in the black." This is an accounting term which means turning profits.
The opposite is to be "in the red" which means having a loss. |

Amazon.com is running deals storewide and using a "gold box special" which reveals super-low Black Friday specials. Some sales are also leaking into "Black Thursday." Those who finish with Thanksgiving early and have some energy left may find a few good deals online. |
