Will tablets, such as the Ipad and Playbook, replace laptops
altogether? At present, only some people may benefit from
exchanging their
laptops for tablets. Tablets are at least a hundred dollars cheaper
than comparable laptops. They are lighter and smaller than laptops
which makes them ideal for travel. They also have great battery power
(from 7 to 12 hours) and boot up quickly. One of the key downsides to
the tablet is the keyboard. While docking stations are available, the
laptop remains the better deal for people who create content (and thus
use the keyboard heavily). The tablet also has a much smaller screen
than a laptop and the software selections are more limited. Overall,
tablets will need a few upgrades before they can replace laptops
entirely. In the meantime, some may switch to the tablet if there is no
need to create content or compose long emails.
