You
can reduce "you" to "yu" with the U sound in "up" when speaking quickly
or intending to be casual. Saying "yu" clearly (when you're not
speaking fast) can sound like slang, so it is not appropriate in
business unless you like to joke or maintain a casual image. Practice
with this conversation between friends. You will notice that
combinations like "what you" can become "wuchu." Of course you will
want to reduce related words like "your" and "you'll" also. Review the rules for casual speech.
Rob: Thanks for coming over. I needed a good friend's advice. What do you think of my painting? Joan: Hmmm. I think you did a good job with the color story, but you can work on the lines. There's vibrancy, but in some places, it's a little contrived. Rob: Yeah, I appreciate what you think. I was concerned about the lines too. Joan: I believe you need to blend the colors in parts of it and go over most of the main lines again. Then you can touch up the smaller lines. After that, I think you'll have a great painting! Rob: I hope you can steer me in the right direction. I've already worked on this for weeks. Joan: Oh, I can tell. I think you've done a great job. All you need to do is the finishing work. Rob: How about you? * How's your photography coming along? Joan: I'm working on a new series based on my trip to Israel, but maybe you can look at it with me and help me choose a point of focus. Rob: Of course! You can come over again tomorrow or I can come there. Joan: Thanks. I'll come back tomorrow. |
